More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

These images

Sorry to disturb you. I was reviewing some of these images and notice that most of the 290+ photos in the category above did not have a new flickrreview ordered. OK. I'll try to order a new bot review for most of the unreviewed images or manually review some of the photos. I don't make mistakes with licenses...but you can never tell if someone has smuggled an image on a flickr account. People are sneaky. When I ask people to license an image on flickr, 2-3 people have complained to me about other people stealing their images. But they are OK with my request to relicense an image freely on flickr since I formally asked them by flickrmail. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:56, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewing Flickr files

Hey, messaging you since you're a license reviewer (and because I recognized you). I've had some problems with some files (File:Imelda Padilla, 2023 (cropped).jpg, File:Imelda Padilla, 2023 (alt crop).jpg, File:Mayor Bass with Representative Cárdenas announcing funds for new bus shelters, 2023.jpg, File:Alberto M. Carvalho, 2023 (cropped).jpg, and File:Mayor Bass meeting with LAUSD Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, 2023.jpg) as I placed {{PD-CAGov}} and a license review but the FlickreviewR 2 put a failed review on it. Some got deleted, but reinstated after I talked with the admins who deleted them, but I told them that I put the license review so that someone could add {{Flickr-unfree-but}} on it, and I wasn't sure if I could do so on my own. Was wondering if you could tell me what to do since you're a license reviewer. (also for File:George McKenna III, 2021 (cropped).jpg and File:George McKenna III speaking about the importance of COVID-19 vaccination, 2021.jpg, which haven't been reviewed yes). reppop^talk 03:12, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, The reason the review failed is because PD-CAgov only applies to state government, not local/municipal governments (like the city of LA and the mayors office) I cannot pass these files as they do have copyright, and the template you linked doesn't apply in this case, as it's used when someone changes the license on flickr, and there's an archive link. But the PD-CAGov template directly states that it includes city and municipal governments? ("government unit (including state, county, city, and municipal government agencies)") The template of Flickr-unfree-but is also not for using when someone changes the license, that's {{Change-of-license}}, it's used to note that the Flickr file can't use a specific copyright template but it's still free (like File:Prime Minister Keir Starmer Portrait (cropped).jpg, which is non-commercial and no-derivatives but is under {{OGL3}}). reppop^talk 21:01, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I stand corrected on where the law applies. This issue should be raised with the city regarding their copyright claims (the only one that might have standing is photos with people from LAUSD.
